Sketchbook Ideas - Journaling About Your Life

JOURNALING
Keeping a journal as an artist takes on a whole new meaning when compared to written journals of old. This can be a "new age" diary of sorts!

What better way to keep your drawing and painting skills honed than with a visual journal of your life. Daily activities like gardening and shopping to vacations and trips. You can journal about anything and everything!

Tips to get started with JOURNALING:

1. Practice lettering. Evenly spaced, printed letters can be just as effective as fancy lettering if it's done correctly. The lettering to the right is a practice sheet that I created after getting some ideas from Pinterest. I drew a rectangle for each letter and tried to make each box unique. Then I tried different lettering styles, added decorations and/or color. This can be done with markers or paints.
I used watercolor paints.

2.  Then plan out your page. You have many options but just play around with it and change it up every time.                                                                             3. Pick your journal theme of the day. Gardening, favorite vacation, flowers, etc and give it a title. Decorate the first letter or all the letters of your title.

4. Add photos or drawing to your journal and write a little snippet or description beside it.

Here are a few more samples of my journal pages!
